The  University of Akron is planning to sell the Quaker Square building complex to a developer.

The 411,000 square foot former Quaker Oats manufacturing facility with its distinctive rounded silos, was rennovated and turned into a hotel, retail, and dining complex in the mid ’70s. The University aquired the property in 2007, and has been using it as a banquet and events center, since then.

All the details haven’t been released yet, but when we talked about it with Akron Mayor Shammas Malik this morning during the Ray Horner Morning Show; he was upbeat about it, and says it could be great for downtown Akron.
