Akron police arrested a 37 year old man who is facing criminal charges related to injuring a woman in what is described as a “domestic” incident, after he barricaded himself inside an apartment near the intersection of South Highland Avenue and West Market Street, for several hours this morning.
It started before 5:00AM in the 10 block of South Highland Avenue, and police reported just before 9:30AM, that the man had surrendered to the SWAT team that was on hand trying to negotiate with him.
Area residents reported they saw police with guns drawn, and even drones overhead, at around 6AM.
Akron Police Captain Michael Miller says the suspect could be looking at charges related to Domestic Violence and Assault, but so far no exact charges have been specified, and the name of the man involved has not yet been released.
The woman who was injured, meanwhile, was hospitalized with what Miller described as serious but not life-threatening injuries.
