OS5 Oh My!

altIf you are technically savvy, a casual user or a hopeless geek (like me) than you know that today is the day the new operating system becomes available for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. It’s called iOS5 and it is a significant departure from the old system, (no, it still will not display flash).

If you have one of these devises and have upgraded the operating system, say back when 4.3 came out, then you know the process can take a while. More than an hour in some cases. As a result the internet has experienced come clogs and in some areas a complete stall. Like the announcement last week of the new iPhone, Apple has once again dropped a small bomb on the world wide web.

While I am writing this I am upgrading my soon-to-be outdated iPhone 4. Then I will update my iPad 2, presumably that will take another 90 minutes.

The new operating system has over 200 upgrades and new features. Most notably is an integration of uses that included the iCloud application that sends some of the function of the device to an unseen, unknown data-Valhalla. This is a very cool way to keep all your stuff accessible from almost anywhere, on almost anything.

Got another 20 minutes for the download. Check back and I’ll tell you how much I like it. Either that or I’ll spend another two hours retrofitting it to the old OS 4.3.
